[Congressional Bills 118th Congress] [From the U.S. Government Publishing Office] [H. Res. 1493 Introduced in House (IH)] <DOC> 118th CONGRESS 2d Session H. RES. 1493 Strongly condemning Vice President Kamala Harris for championing policies that would exacerbate the national debt and reduce energy independence. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES September 24, 2024 Mr. Arrington (for himself, Mr. Ellzey, Mr. Norman, Ms. Tenney, Mr. Balderson, Mr. Babin, Mrs. Miller of West Virginia, Mr. Guthrie, Mr. Walberg, Mr. Reschenthaler, Mr. Kelly of Pennsylvania, Mr. Fallon, Mr. Moolenaar, and Mr. Diaz-Balart) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce _______________________________________________________________________ RESOLUTION Strongly condemning Vice President Kamala Harris for championing policies that would exacerbate the national debt and reduce energy independence. Whereas the Federal Government has a debt of $35 trillion, amounting to a 120- percent debt-to-gross domestic product ratio not seen since World War II; Whereas energy independence and security in the United States is critical to the national security of the United States; Whereas, in 2019, then-Senator from California, Kamala Harris, was an original cosponsor of S. Res. 59, a resolution recognizing the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal, a proposal which, if implemented in its entirety, would cost the Federal Government $93,000,000,000,000 over 10 years; Whereas a July 2019 analysis found that through 2040, the Green New Deal would reduce the annual employment in the United States by 1,200,000, reduce average annual household incomes by $7,964, and increase annual household energy costs by 31-percent, while having a negligible effect on reducing global surface temperatures; Whereas then-Senator Harris, as a candidate for the 2020 Democratic Presidential nomination, proposed her own climate plan that would cost American taxpayers approximately $10,000,000,000,000 over 10 years; Whereas then-Senator Harris's climate plan called for a 100 percent electric vehicle mandate by the year 2035, banning combustion-engine vehicles, reducing automotive supply employment, and becoming more reliable on battery component and critical mineral imports from China; Whereas then-Senator Harris's climate plan would significantly increase energy costs for consumers in the United States by banning extraction on Federal lands and phasing out all oil and natural gas production, even if renewable alternatives are not readily available to make up the energy demand needs of the United States; Whereas then-Senator Harris's climate plan would double the financial contributions of the United States to the international Green Climate Fund; Whereas then-Senator Harris's climate plan calls for the Federal Government to acquire millions of acres of private land in the United States; and Whereas then-Senator Harris said during a CNN town hall that she was ``in favor of banning fracking'': Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) denounces past legislation cosponsored by Vice President Kamala Harris to exacerbate the national debt, threaten American energy, and national security, and significantly increase costs for consumers; and (2) condemns efforts by Vice President Kamala Harris to threaten American energy independence and put the United States on a path towards fiscal insolvency. <all>
