                    IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

                           November 19, 2024

  Mr. Carter of Georgia (for himself, Mr. McCormick, Ms. Williams of 
  Georgia, Mr. Ferguson, Mr. Johnson of Georgia, Mr. Austin Scott of 
    Georgia, Mr. Bishop of Georgia, and Mrs. McBath) submitted the 
following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight 
                           and Accountability

                               RESOLUTION


 
   Honoring the lives of those who passed away in the tragic gangway 
                  collapse on Sapelo Island, Georgia.

Whereas, on October 19, 2024, 7 individuals passed away in a tragic gangway 
        collapse on Sapelo Island, identified as--

    (1) Isaiah Thomas;

    (2) Carlotta McIntosh;

    (3) Jacqueline Crews Carter;

    (4) Cynthia Alynn Gibbs;

    (5) Queen Welch;

    (6) William Lee Johnson, Jr.; and

    (7) Charles League Houston;

Whereas numerous other victims were critically injured and hospitalized;
Whereas the Sapelo Island community has been greatly harmed by this tragedy; and
Whereas the Gullah Geechee community had gathered to celebrate Sapelo Island's 
        annual Cultural Day: Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
            (1) honors the memory of the victims of this tragedy, 
        identified as--
                    (A) Isaiah Thomas;
                    (B) Carlotta McIntosh;
                    (C) Jacqueline Crews Carter;
                    (D) Cynthia Alynn Gibbs;
                    (E) Queen Welch;
                    (F) William Lee Johnson, Jr.; and
                    (G) Charles League Houston;
            (2) extends its condolences to the families and friends of 
        the victims;
            (3) extends its condolences to the entire Gullah Geechee 
        community;
            (4) expresses hope that those wounded make a full recovery; 
        and
            (5) expresses appreciation and thanks for law enforcement, 
        and all first responders that helped render aid to victims.
