Mr. Bowman submitted the following resolution; which was referred to
the Committee on Oversight and Accountability

RESOLUTION
Expressing support for the designation of March 23, 2023, as ``Pakistan
Day''.
Whereas it is proper and desirable for the United States to recognize and pay
tribute to those who foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of
cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of
the United States;
Whereas ``Pakistan Day'' is a national holiday in Pakistan commemorating the
Lahore Resolution passed on March 23, 1940, and the adoption of the
first Constitution of Pakistan during the transition of the Dominion of
Pakistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on March 23, 1956, making
it the world's first Islamic republic;
Whereas, each year, the citizens of Pakistan come together on March 23, to
celebrate this special day with a full military and civilian parade in
the capital, Islamabad;
Whereas ``Pakistan Day'' provides an excellent means by which all residents of
the United States can learn more about the rich Pakistani heritage,
while fostering an appreciation for this ancient culture among future
generations;
Whereas the American Pakistani Advocacy Group plays an important role in
advocating for the Pakistani-American community in the United States;
Whereas the community of people who came to the United States from Pakistan, or
who have ancestral ties to Pakistan, share their cherished culture and
traditions with residents of the United States of all backgrounds; and
Whereas Pakistani-Americans excel in a wide range of professions such as
education, medicine, science, technology, business, and industry, and
have made significant contributions to the cultural and economic
vitality of the United States: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) offers its best wishes to all members of the Pakistani-
American community as they hold appropriate ceremonies to
commemorate this historic milestone; and
(2) supports the designation of ``Pakistan Day'' to honor
and celebrate the important role played by the Pakistani-
American community in strengthening and inspiring the people of
the United States.
