Mr. Feenstra (for himself, Mrs. Miller-Meeks, Mrs. Hinson, and Mr. Nunn
of Iowa) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the
Committee on Oversight and Accountability

RESOLUTION
Expressing support for the designation of February 1, 2023, as ``George
Washington Carver Day''.
Whereas George Washington Carver was one of the greatest American agricultural
scientists and humanitarians of the 20th century;
Whereas George Washington Carver was born enslaved in Missouri, in circa 1864,
and eventually pursued higher education in Iowa;
Whereas George Washington Carver was Iowa State University's first Black student
and Black faculty member, and later earned international renown as a
faculty member at the Tuskegee University in Alabama;
Whereas George Washington Carver gained an international reputation in research,
teaching and outreach, and created hundreds of products from peanuts,
soybeans, sweet potatoes, and other crops; and
Whereas his humanitarian efforts changed the lives of countless farmers and
families in poverty: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives supports a ``George
Washington Carver Day'' to celebrate and commemorate George Washington
Carver's enduring legacy and contributions to our Nation.
