II. Background Under the provisions of the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (44 U.S.C. chapter 35), the NRC recently submitted a request for renewal of an existing collection of information to OMB for review entitled, ``Domestic Licensing of Source Material.'' The NRC hereby informs potential respondents that an agency may not conduct or sponsor, and that a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number. The NRC published a Federal Register notice with a 60-day comment period on this information collection on February 18, 2022, 87 FR 9392. 1. The title of the information collection: Part 40 of title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), ``Domestic Licensing of Source Material.'' 2. OMB approval number: 3150-0020. 3. Type of submission: Revision. 4. The form number, if applicable: Not applicable. 5. How often the collection is required or requested: Reports required under 10 CFR part 40 are collected and evaluated on a continuing basis as events occur. There is a one-time submittal of information to receive a license. Renewal applications need to be submitted every 15 to 40 years. Information in previous applications may be referenced without being resubmitted. In addition, recordkeeping must be performed on an on-going basis. 6. Who will be required or asked to respond: Applicants for and holders of NRC licenses authorizing the receipt, possession, use, or transfer of radioactive source material. 7. The estimated number of annual responses: 1,341. 8. The estimated number of annual respondents: 582 (72 NRC licensees + 510 Agreement State licensees). 9. The estimated number of hours needed annually to comply with the information collection requirement or request: 16,422 hours (11,284 hours reporting + 5,123 hours recordkeeping + 15 hours third party disclosure). 10. Abstract: The NRC regulations in 10 CFR part 40 establish procedures and criteria for the issuance of licenses to receive title to, receive, possess, use, transfer, or deliver source and byproduct material. The application, reporting, recordkeeping, and third-party notification requirements are necessary to permit the NRC to make a determination as to whether the possession, use, and transfer of source and byproduct material is in conformance with the Commission's regulations for protection of public health and safety.
